About the Institution

Welcome to the District Institute of Education & Training (DIET), Perundurai, a premier teacher-education institution dedicated to strengthening elementary education and shaping the future of teaching excellence in Tamil Nadu.

Established by the Government of India on July 7, 1993, under the Third Phase of DIET implementation, the institute was founded with a clear mission—to enhance the quality of teacher education at the elementary level in Erode District. Located approximately 20 kilometers from Erode, DIET Perundurai has grown into a central force in developing skilled, committed, and professionally trained educators.

Since the commencement of its academic programs in 1995, the institute has successfully produced 20 batches of trained teachers, with nearly 75% of its graduates securing placements in Government Primary and Middle Schools. Through both Pre-Service and In-Service training programs, DIET continues to play a pivotal role in improving classroom practices and educational outcomes across the district.

During its 23 years of dedicated service to teacher education and school development, DIET Perundurai has achieved several remarkable milestones. One of its unique contributions includes enabling 50 part-time vocational teachers, who were previously working on consolidated pay, to secure regular Government appointments with full pay-scale parity. This was accomplished through a special two-month training program on Child Psychology and Pedagogy in 1997.

In the same year, the institute demonstrated its strong social commitment by offering specialized training to 60 unemployed B.T-qualified teachers belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. This initiative focused on Child Psychology and Teaching Methodology, empowering these educators to obtain regular appointments as B.T. Assistants in Government Middle Schools across Tamil Nadu.

Today, DIET Perundurai stands as a symbol of educational empowerment, inclusivity, and academic excellence, continuing its mission to strengthen the foundation of school education and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s educational development.
